
Monica Amalfitano

Monica graduated in 1994 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from CSULB, received her Calfiornia State Professional Engineering License in 1998. Before joining CSULB Design and Construction team, she worked for 22 years in the private sector on a variety of Higher Education Projects, including heating and cooling central plants, utility infrastructure upgrades, energy efficiency feasibility studies and projects, classroom, science laboratories, and student recreation projects. Monica designed many Higher Education sustainable buildings, many of which included a variety of LEED certifications, including Platinum. In 2015 she started with CSULB and is currently the Interim Director and Campus Engineer in the Design and Construction Department. As Director, she Oversees the Design & Construction Services staff in the implementation of campus major and minor capital programs and projects. As Campus Engineer, she supports the project management and construction teams, the Energy Manager, the Sustainability Department, and Facilities Management Services. Monica has been a part of the roadmap to the University’s decarbonization goals and she impacts the University’s sustainable approaches to University Design and Construction. This has resulted in CSULB's first Net Zero Energy Classroom Building, and the first full Living Building Challenge Student Housing building – which are both first in the CSU system.
