Mitchel Le Heux

Senior Project Director, WSP

With a character of curiosity, empathy and passion, Mitchel strives to understand clients’ goals and deliver exceptional projects. The same character is applied internally within WSP as a regional champion supporting the firm’s aspirational climate and sustainability objectives.

Mitchel’s tapestry of experience includes being on the forefront of California’s modern mass timber building movement, breathing new life into theaters through renovation and stage engineering, pushing the boundaries of performance-based design of skyscrapers, and providing structural engineering of medical office buildings. His creative expertise has been applied to the testing of novel connections and to the repurposing of existing structures to bring new life to what otherwise might have been abandoned.

Mitchel laid the foundation for his career by graduating with a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. The university, back when he graduated in 2009, was already on the forefront of the movement to develop seismically resistant mass timber buildings, and his undergraduate research supported this effort. He furthered his knowledge through pursuing a Master’s in Earthquake Engineering from the Istituto Universitario di Studi Superiori Pavia, Italy in 2011. At this program professors and students travelled from around the world to research and learn how to reduce seismic risk.
