A seasoned and highly experienced public speaker working on code and regulatory advocacy on behalf of the American Institute of Architects to support climate action, housing production, and adaptive reuse and retrofit of our existing building stock. His success in the last few years include leading an effort to bring the United State's first Embodied Carbon requirements to California's CALGreen effective July 2024; and leading a co-incident effort to bring seven new chapters to California's Existing Building Code effective July 2024 to support reuse and adaptive reuse of our existing building stock, with a focus on housing. Architect for a number of 'city shaping' Commercial to Housing adaptive reuse projects including the Warehouse Artist Lofts (2015, abandoned downtown historic warehouse to housing), theGlobe Mills (2008, abandoned downtown flour mill and silo complex to housing), and the Hotel Stockton (2006, abandoned national register listed historic downtown hotel to housing), Michael is Consultant to American Institute of Architects California in Code and Regulatory matters and Housing Delivery; a current member of the AIA National Code Committee; a former member of ICC Existing Building Code Committee, and a long time leader of the AIA at local, state and national levels.
