Marcos A. Rodriguez has remarkably impacted sustainability across four Kern County. K – 16 educational institutions for the last 21 years in facilities management. Beginning at Delano Union School District (DUSD), he was responsible for converting the entire yellow school bus fleet to operate on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). He also constructed the first joint education complex in Kern County while at the district. At California State University, Bakersfield Rodriguez developed strategic plans for tree programming, irrigation management, and upgrading energy management systems campuswide. While at Bakersfield City School District (BCSD), Rodriguez expanded on these efforts. He modernized countless campuses, constructed new sites, and developed twenty-nine solar projects. BCSD notably saved over $4 million in energy and over half a million gallons of water during his tenure. Voorhies Elementary became a net-zero energy campus, and MLK Elementary achieved net-zero energy and carbon designation. Finally, at Bakersfield College, he spearheaded three solar projects totaling 2.5 MW, a 752-kWhHr battery storage project, and one microgrid project (335 kWhHr). His commitment to trees earned BC campuses recognition as Tree Campus Higher Education accolade and as an official ArbNet Arboretum designation. Rodriguez still plays a key role in all Measure J bond construction programs districtwide.
