Brian Dunbar
Executive Director, CSU Institute for the Built Environment
Brian is Executive Director of IBE and Professor Emeritus at Colorado State University, where he has taught courses in Construction Management, Interior Architecture, and Sustainability. Brian holds degrees in architecture from the University of Michigan and is a WELL Accredited Professional (AP) and LEED AP. Brian helped create IBE’s Lifelong Homes & Communities program, which was established to guide developers, designers, builders, and homeowners to create places that support healthy, active, generative lives.
Through IBE, Brian has guided project work for the National Park Service, American Institute of Architects, cities, universities, housing authorities, and school districts. Brian’s healthy, sustainable building teaching and research has been honored by AIA, the Colorado Governor, communities, businesses, and universities. The U.S. Green Building Council recognized Brian with one of its first LEED Fellow distinctions (2012) and its National Leadership Award (2022).
