Dr. Ashley Carmenia
Program Director, Girl Plus Environment
Dr. Ashley Carmenia is a seasoned public health leader and equity advocate with over a decade of experience advancing community-centered solutions in population and women’s health that has been recognized by USA Today, CDC, and NACCHO. With diverse programmatic experience, she brings a system-level approach to addressing the social, environmental, and structural factors that shape health and opportunity in black and brown communities. She has led and supported initiatives across maternal and child health, chronic disease prevention, workforce development, and community-based education -- translating equity-focused research and policy into programs that are community-rooted, sustainable, and impact-driven.
Dr. Carmenia is committed to strengthening community partnerships, educating, and ensuring that individuals are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to steward their environments and lead transformational change. Her leadership emphasizes collaboration, cultural humility, and accountability—grounded in the belief that environmental justice and gender equity are inseparable. Dr. Carmenia holds a Doctor of Health Science with a specialization in Rural Health from Campbell University and a MPH from the University of New England.
