First Keynote Speakers for NZ23 Announced!

By: Ry Cabote, Verdical Group

Verdical Group is excited to announce that our first two Keynote Speakers for this year’s Net Zero Conference are Panama Bartholomy and Alexandra Nagy! This impressive duo will speak about the impact of our historical reliance on natural gas and how our communities can move away from fossil fuels through activism and decarbonizing technologies.

Panama is the Director of the Building Decarbonization Coalition, a multi-sector forum advocating for and creating solutions for our pollution-intensive building stock. Previously, Panama was the European Director of the Investor Confidence Project, where he worked to unlock capital markets for energy efficiency project development.

Panama has also served as the Advisor on Energy and Natural Resources to California Assembly Speaker John A. Perez and as Deputy Director of the California Energy Commission’s Efficiency and Renewables Division and advisor for Chairwomen Douglas and Pfannenstiel. He has worked for the California Conservation Corps on vocational environmental education, and ran the Sustainable Schools program for the Division of the State Architect. Panama served on the City of Sacramento Planning Commission and the County of Sacramento Environmental Commission, and is a former board member on the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and past president of the Northern California Chapter of the USGBC. He has worked on climate solutions in over 30-countries, presented at and collaborated on products from the United Nations, the International Energy Agency and the European Commission.

Alexandra brings over 10 years of issue organizing, advocacy and communications experience on climate, food, water, energy and environmental justice issues in California. Prior to joining Sunstone Strategies, Alex was the California Director of Food & Water Watch where she spent 10 years developing her skills as an organizer, strategist, coalition builder and communications specialist.

Based in Los Angeles, Alex has been working on the front lines to protect communities from the expansion of fossil fuels while advocating a just and equitable clean energy transition. She worked with coalitions to win hard hitting campaigns including securing a California fracking ban, stopping new drilling projects, exposing the nation’s worst climate disaster caused by the SoCalGas Aliso Canyon gas blowout, and securing a commitment from Los Angeles to transition LADWP to 100% clean energy by 2035 and 100% electric buses by 2028.
