Dynamic, versatile, Emmy-Award Winning Environment Journalist Sarah Pilla is NZ23’s emcee! Sarah Pilla is Spectrum News 1’s Climate, Weather, and Lifestyle Reporter. She won an Emmy for Best Environment News Story in 2021 for “Oceana Trash”- a compelling story on the impact of plastic pollution on marine animals. Sarah can be found weekdays, live on SN1’s flagship morning show “Your Morning” covering extreme weather as its happening, climate stories, and Friday lifestyle segments showcasing things to do in SoCal and what to expect weather-wise. She has built a climate role and brand at Spectrum News 1, and has become an expert and top journalist in this space.

Back for the second time as the emcee for the Net Zero Conference, Sarah will walk our attendees through the program for the day, introduce our keynotes and featured panelists, and even announce our Trailblazer Awardees at the annual Trailblazer Awards Gala.

Sarah has covered timely and vast topics such as the Colorado River Water crisis, extreme weather, energy, pollution, biodiversity, sustainability, and climate adaptability. She oversees all phases of production of her segments. In 2022, she hosted two specials: “The Trickle Down Effect,” an Earth Day Special (April) focused on water and drought, and “Saving Our Oceans, A Deep Dive”, a Spectrum News Network-wide special for National Oceans Month (June).

In 2023, Sarah was the only TV reporter in the nation to join the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California on an exclusive Colorado River trip. She travels frequently throughout the year covering various climate stories. Sarah traveled to Lake Tahoe to cover the February 2023 California Department of Water Resources snow survey, and to the TomKat Ranch, run by billionaire environmental philanthropist and former presidential candidate, Tom Steyer and his wife, Kat Taylor in Pescadero, CA to cover their work on dismantling the food system through regenerative agriculture.

In addition to her current role, Sarah is a regular fill-in news anchor and weather anchor. She is a member of the Television Academy and the SoCal Chapter of WICT Network, both professional groups of women in media, entertainment, and technology. Sarah was named LA TV Week’s 40 Under 40 in their inaugural class of 2022. Sarah is interested in expanding her role as a climate journalist and expert on the national and global stage, bringing awareness to important climate issues and effective solutions.

NZ23 is excited to have Sarah as our guide throughout this year’s conference! Register today to join her at the Net Zero Conference, hosted in Los Angeles on September 13+14, 2023.
