California Energy Commission
The California Governor, the Energy Commission, CPUC, and CARB, have established the goal of zero net energy (ZNE) by 2020 for residential buildings and 2030 for nonresidential buildings and Building Energy Efficiency Standards (Parts 6 and 11) have been identified as one of the primary vehicles for delivering the ZNE goals. Mazi Shirakh, PE is a senior mechanical engineer and the ZNE lead for the upcoming 2019 cycle of the Building Energy Efficiency Standards (BEES) at the California Energy Commission. Previously he was the project manager for the 2008, 2013, and the 2016 cycles of the Standards, working with the PG&E, Edison, SDG&E, SMUD, LADWP and a large team of consultants to make the building envelop and systems as efficient as possible and then require appropriate PV sizes to achieve ZNE in buildings.
